Ridgewood High School4

New Port Richey, FL | Pasco County

Ridgewood is a 35 year old school nestled in a suburban community. The school started out as a middle school but converted to a high school about 1986. At one time, the school had the highest test scores in the county, but, because of a drastic shift in the socio-economic shift within the local community, this is no longer the case. The school is now a Title One school, with over 70% of our students receiving free or reduced lunch. The students are hardworking though and as a result, the school has risen from a D school to a B school these last two years. The students are very proud of our school, and they continuously strive to make things better. This year we were rated a Gold school for the abundance of volunteer hours contributed toward the school by both students and patents. Although many of our students go onto college, many volunteer to serve our country as members of the U.S. military. Out of this last graduating class, 24 graduates enlisted in various branches of the armed forces. We take pride in our school and the success of our students. Go Rams!

My child had 2 classes with NO TEACHER. Not even a substitute. This went on for the first 2 weeks of school. Just recently a teacher quit mid-day due to her overwhelming stress. Some teachers don't post students work assignments on eSembler, so I have no idea how well my kids are doing until they receive a progress report. When I asked to remove my child from a "no teacher" class & put into another, it was not done. I want what is best for my child & this school is not providing it's best. I'm highly considering pulling my children from this school. It's extremely overcrowded anyway.

The district school board needs to give the music, sports and arts program more $ for after school programs instead of having parents tag it to their job incomes. Medical, dental and car insurances continue to rise and many parents cannot afford to pay for alot of after school activities that include uniforms, equipment and physical exams. They also need to create an after school 'academic club' to help kids prepare for the FCATS, ACT and SAT. Also serve less greasy foods and create a second floor where the kids can have an inside gymnasium, a bigger library and computer lab. More and more teens are having to work instead of raising their grade point average.
